Chilli Con Carne
Ingredients
15 ml / 1tbsp oil
450g / 1lb minced beef
10ml / 2tsps ground cumin
10ml 2 tsps mild or hot chilli powder
Pinch oregano
Salt, pepper and pinch of sugar
1.25ml / ΒΌ tsp garlic granules
30ml 2 tbsps flour
450g / 1lb canned tomatoes
450g / 1lb canned red kidney beans
Method
Heat the oil in a large saucepan and brown the meat, breaking it up with a fork as it cooks
Sprinkle on the cumin, chilli powder, oregano, salt, pepper, sugar, garlic and flour
Cook, stirring frequently over medium heat for about 3 minutes
Add the tomatoes and their liquid and simmer for 25-30 minutes
Drain the kidney beans and add just before serving
Heat through for a further 5 minutes
Note:
Top with sour cream, chopped onion, gated cheese, diced avocado or a combination of the 4 ingredients
I prefer to use real hot chillies and garlic instead of chilli powder and garlic granules
